My recommendations are to dig anywhere but the jungle and ice. Both have too much water, and in revengeance your breath drains way faster in ice water, making it nigh impossible to dig without changing tunnels. You should also re-equip your platinum or gold armor, as calamity adds a 40% mining speed perk to them.
